What is Kanzashi?

The unusual word Kanzashi (read [kandza’si]) is used to call traditional Japanese hair ornaments. Flowers for these ornaments have been produced of silk on special technology. This very technique formed the basis for the modern art named kanzashi. With the help of simple set of tools and creative approach, artisans create incredibly impressive things made of satin, organza, silk and other materials and fabrics. This craft is used to make different hair ornaments, decorative elements of clothes; moreover, today it also includes handbags, bijouterie, interior decor.
